Save Money On Your Lease Car
By Jana Jansen
If you have leased a car ... you have experieced the feeling of dread as you were about to turn it in. "How much am I going to have to pay.. is it clean enough.. is it scratched....is there enough gas in it.. are there stains inside..??????..." Save yourself this dread by adhering to the following steps while leasing.. 1. Oil changes. This is by far the single most important step. If the oil goes dry, the engine seizes..freezes. Follow the recommended oil change schedule in the car manual. DO NOT RISK PAYING FOR MAJOR ENGINE REPAIR. 2. Washes. If you keep you car in open air at all times.. wash it every 2 to 4 weeks.. depending of on the weather conditions...of course. Your eyes will tell you when the car needs washing. Make sure you remove bugs and bird droppings and crab apples and such as soon as possible.. as they will damage the clearcoat finish. 3.Interior cleaning. Keep the interior vacumned. Make sure you clean up any spills ASAP to prevent staining. 4. Waxing. This is an optional step.. but a very wise one if you are prone to park beneath trees or out in the open air in industrial areas... as waxing protects the finish. 5.Tire balance and alignment. Watch for unuaual wear on the tires .. checking if the tread is wearing unevenly. Take note if the steering drifts either to the right or left. These are two indications that the alignment or tire balance is off. Take it to a tire shop to have an alignment done... tire balance checked. 6.Tire rotation. Front wheel drive cars wear out front end tires much faster than rear wheel drive cars do. Rotating the front and rear tires will keep the tires worn more evenly. You may end up paying for two like new tires and two worn out ones... but not for four half worn tires. 7. Filters. The only filter to check other than the oil filter.. which will be checked with your oil changes ... is the air filter... which can be easily checked and replaced if it becomes clogged. 8. Brake pads. If the brakes show any sign of wear.. such as a lot of play in the brake pedal or squealing ... have them replaced. You don't want to be responsible for replacing the rotors. 9.Wiper blades. Replace the blades at the first sign of wear. Don't wait till they are losing the rubber and scratching against the glass. 10. Gas level. A half tank of gas at turn-in time is the standard level expected. Follow this check list and you will turn that car in with a confident smile .. no dread in sight. |
