How To Care For Your Ice Skates
By Jana Jansen
While learning how to care for your ice skates.. there are two facts to keep in mind. Your ice skates are composed of leather boots and hard steel blades. The leather boots need to be cared for as a good pair of shoes would be taken care of .. or a good pair of leather winter boots. Keep the boots dry inside. They may suffer some dampness if you have feet that sweat easily. Rub the outer leather with a good leather care product. Never walk on anything with your skate blades unprotected.. other than the rubber matting surrounding an indoor arena or the ice itself. Keep blade guards on those blades at all other times. After every skating session ... dry your skate blades with a soft absorbent towel you keep with your skating gear. You do not want to risk the onset of rust. Store your ice skates when out of season or not using for any length of time in a dry cool place where the environment they are being stored in will not affect them and cause cracks in the leather from dryrot. Once again .. a reminder of the two important facts to keep in mind when caring for your ice skates ... they have boots made of high quality leather and blades made of hard steel. Care for them accordingly. |
