Formal Family Dinner.. A Forgotten Event?
The formal family dinner... is it a thing of the past? A formal family dinner is a bond forming event that can quickly become a tradition. It can include your immediate family only or extended family including grandparents. Begin with the menu. Make it something special with all the sidedishes that go with the main dish. Give attention to the table settings. A tablecloth and cloth napkins should be a must.. and they do not need to be expensive. Candles for a centerpiece works great... or fresh flowers in a vase. You can choose whatever fits your mood for the centerpiece. Set the table with real dishes. It does not have to be china if you have none. Whatever you have will work. Use real glasses.. stemware adds a wonderful touch. Whatever flatware you have available is great. Put milk or ice water in a pitcher and butter in a butter dish. Use glass serving bowls for the food.. set on the table to be passed. The busiest part of the meal preparation is getting everything in serving bowls and set on the table while each is still hot. Planning a formal family dinner may seem like a daunting task.. but it is one well worth the effort. You will be surprised how much everyone enjoys it .. if you have never tried it before. You will also be surprised at how satisfying it is to plan and actually put on a formal family dinner. |
