Children and Outdoor Play
Are too many of our children being robbed of that wonderful imagination stretching, large motor skill developing, social skills building activity of outdoor play? I hope not. Hide and seek, kick the can, sardines, baseball, soccer, climbing trees, sandbox play, sloshing through mud puddles, sledding, ice skating, building snowforts, jumping in leaves, tag, hopscotch, bicycle riding, red rover, and the list can go on and on and on. Are these activities a thing of the past? Do your children get outdoors to play? Perhaps it is just a sign of the times that there seem to be fewer and fewer sounds of children's voices outdoors today... freely laughing, screeching, shouting, playing.. having fun... a sign of the times that goes beyond the tech toys of which there are so many our kids are privvy to ... to where fears are involved.. fears in the parents of allowing their children to freely play outdoors. What a horrible loss for the kids... and I hope it is just my imagination that makes me think this is so.. that in reality... this so natural part of childhood will never ever die. |
